Embracing Darkness
By June Michael

Dear Readers,

I never thought that I would be writing an article about embracing the darkness. My entire life has been focused on living in the light. The reason I am writing about this subject is because, in my line of work as an intuitive reader and numerologist, I keep track of group consciousness and humanity’s emotions. Collectively and individually, people are experiencing a tremendous amount of life challenges or what many call the darkness. What exactly is this darkness that we run from, hide from and deny any involvement with at all cause? We have been told that is it evil and bad. Hollywood has made millions of dollars by feeding us the continuous story of the battle between good and evil. Is the darkness what the psychologists call our shadow self, those “hidden traits of the personality,” that we need to open up too? Is it an evil thought that we intentionally or unintentionally conjured up in our minds? Is it a deed that we carried out that impacted negatively on others? Is it a tsunami or global warming? Darkness can be all of the above and more.

Thomas Moore in his book, Dark Nights of the Soul, says that, “Every human life is made up of the light and the dark, the happy and the sad, the vital and the deadening.” There is no escaping the darkness. It is just as much a part of life as the light. One needs to realize that the universe is governed by the seven Hermetic principles. The Hermetic Law of Polarity states that, "Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half truths." Embracing darkness is not new age wisdom. It is found in the world’s legends, myths, and religious stories of antiquity. We have to embrace both because they are part of the spiritual purification plan for souls. How can you be in the light if you don’t know the darkness? The following poem is part of a collection of the fifty-two Gnostic manuscripts found in the Egyptian desert town of Nag Hammadi over 2000 years ago that speaks to the significance of both light and darkness.

For I am the First and the Last.

I am the honored one and the scorned one.
I am the whore and the holy one.
I am the wife and the virgin…
I am the barren one
And many are her sons….

For I am knowledge and ignorance.
I am shame and boldness.
I am shameless; I am ashamed.
I am strength and I am fear.
I am war and I am peace.

I am the one who is disgraced and the great one….
I am godless,
And I am the one whose God is great.
(Selected from “The Thunder, Perfect Mind,” in The Nag Hammadi Library, James M. Robinson, Editor)

Darkness has its place in human nature. It is the great awakener. It is essential and tremendously important for the spiritual purification of our souls. For those of you who are experiencing an overwhelming increase of personal challenges, you are going through a phase of the purification process. In order for your spiritual frequency to be increased to handle the higher vibratory energy of the planet that is coming in, your old energy systems have to be transfigured. Our beloved earth is experiencing this same transfiguration such as the recent earthquakes and tsunami that took place in Southeast Asia. I suggest that you re-read the above poem. It expresses so much truth and wisdom that are still relevant today. Our job is to accept both the light and the darkness and bring them into balance and harmony by maintaining a vibration of love and Oneness. This is life and it is law.

Angelic Message:

Expressing Your Love In
A Sacred Wedding Ceremony

By Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway
Author of Wedding Goddess

Every time I officiate at a wedding ceremony I am awed by the extraordinary energy that becomes available when two people in love literally step up to commit themselves to sacred union. Because I am frequently called upon to solemnize marriage vows outside of traditional religious settings, I have seen time and again that a holy temple can be created anywhere love is present.

All wedding ceremonies have a rhythm, and a life, of their own. The energy comes alive as the bride makes her walk to the altar and builds like a symphony with each segment of the ceremony. By the time vows are exchanged, it is as if the heavens opened to rain love upon the gathering. Couples can seize the opportunity to unite not just their hearts, lives and families, but to unite their very beings.

Although many of us grew up attending traditional weddings, in churches, synagogues and temples, in recent years we have seen the emergence of a new type of wedding, where couples marry outside of a formal house of worship. They often opt for ceremonies that are non traditional, personal, unique. Whether they include religious traditions, or not, almost every couple wants their ceremony to be sacred.

The concept of the sacred marriage or sacred love ceremony originated with the ancients, who typically enacted annual ceremonies to bring fertility and prosperity. Many cultures enacted or emulated sexual rites between God and Goddess, or between the Gods and a human who “impersonated” or energetically acted out the role of a deity. The Greeks called it Hieros Gamos. Many mythologies describe it as a marriage between heaven and earth. In ancient Egypt, the marriage between Isis and Osiris was considered sacred union of heaven and earth, of yin and yang, of the feminine and the masculine principles.

In the Hindu tradition, man and woman came to the wedding altar as God and Goddess in human form. To this day, in many parts of India, the bride is looked upon as Goddess Lakshmi (who rules abundance, prosperity and beauty) and the groom as Lakshmi’s consort, Lord Vishnu (the Great Preserver, and a God who incarnated as Krishna).

The Celtic tradition brought forth one of the most widely practiced forms of sacred ceremony today -- the hand fasting. It was once a form of “engagement” that committed couples for a year and day. If they found marriage suitable, they’d marry. It grew into a self-initiated ceremony couples would conduct in the days before there was such as thing as a wedding officiant. The custom is still widely practiced in the Pagan community, often presided over by a High Priestess and High Priest to represent male and female energies. (One of them has to be a clergy registered to perform legal marriages).

Many couples relish the idea of a memorable and special sacred ceremony – but they want to tread lightly on some of the traditions and trimmings that relatives with strong religious beliefs would find upsetting or offensive. They also want ceremonies that are welcoming to loved ones and can easily include the participation of friends and family.

The modern sacred love wedding ceremony is one that has to be crafted by and for each individual couple. It’s rarely something you can just pull out of a book. It’s personalized, and has to include elements that will help that couple truly seize on the energy of the moment – such as creating a sanctified space that is like a sacred container for their love and vows.

It doesn’t have to look like a Hindu ceremony or a Pagan ceremony or seem like a reenactment of the Celtic Holiday of Beltane when men and women took to the fields to make love in the name of the Goddess. It can be a groom in a tux and a bride in white who walks down the aisle, or a shoeless couple on a beach. It can contain elements or rituals of existing traditional or non-traditional ceremonies; it can include any religious, spiritual, cultural or family traditions the couple chooses. The main ingredient is their love and their conscious intent to express that love to one another – and share it with their community –in a way that is holy and sacred to them personally. c. 2005, Reverend Laurie Sue Brockway

Treasures of the Earth--- Crystals

Hemimorphite

Treasures from the Earth
Stones for health and transformation
By Jim Heinen

It is said that Hemimorphite is the color of angel wings. I don’t doubt that at all. This beautiful, light blue stone has a color not often seen in the mineral kingdom. One can easily relax just gazing at it. Bringing you relaxation in the form of inner peace is one of the gifts that Hemimorphite offers mankind. It eases the mind and heart. By the calmness it instills, Hemimorphite promotes good health. Hemimorphite also helps in purifying the blood and eliminates disease at the cell level. The relaxed mind is able to heal the cleansed body and maintain that peak of good health.

This is a stone that helps with the evolution of the sense of self. Hemimorphite promotes self-confidence, self-esteem and self-respect while discouraging us from being egocentric. It helps us know who we are and what our potential is. It helps identify those things in life that provoke us and helps us to avoid them in the future. Hemimorphite helps in reducing our reaction to negativity. It assists us in taking responsibility for our own outcome. This is important for our self-evolution. As we take responsibility for our happiness and are creating our bliss filled future, Hemimorphite is eliminating the negativity that would hinder our development.

This brilliant blue stone is there for us to call upon as we grow toward our future. Although it seems to be a very gentle stone, the assistance it provides is very deep and powerful. It is one thing to appreciate the beauty of a river. But you do not appreciate the power of this natural flow until you step in and let it pull you along. The same is true with Hemimorphite. You can appreciate its beauty from afar. But you need to use the stone to appreciate its true wonder.
